Name:
Wayne Humphries Rank: 5th Dan Master Instructor Position at School: Class Instructor, keeper of the website. Years in Martial Arts: 1977 – 1980 Shotokan Karate (about 2 ½ years actually and then pretty much off and on) 1988 to present in Tang Soo Do, (that’s about 22 years) Accomplishments or Awards: I have won Grand Champion Forms with the I.T.F in their 5th invitational open in 2003. Won Silver in the sparring in the heavyweight division of the I.T.F 1998 World Championships held in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Won Adult Black belt forms in the I.T.F championships from 2001 - 2003. I won a silver medal in breaking in Grandmaster Byrnes tournament March 2009 in Boston, USA. I Passed my black belt in 1994. Took me six years to get my black belt... we only had two at most three gradings a year back then...NO ONE...was allowed to grade in class...if you missed a grading due to injury or holidays then too bad you were just six to nine months to your next grading. Opened Pencoed Tang Soo Do in 1995. My first student to pass the black belt tested in 2000 (Mrs. Margaret Cowland). I tested to Fourth Dan in 2004 the grading panel included Grandmaster CS Kim, Master W. Williams and Master Trudgill. I passed my Fifth Dan In May 2010 Grading Panel included Grandmaster Richard Byrne, Grandmaster Dominic Giacobbe, Master Penny Mitchell, Master John Trudgill, Master Marco DiScipio. With six years to sixth Dan I will be eligible to test middle of 2016 by which time I will be REALLY old. We opened Garw Valley Tang Soo Do in March 2006. Favourite Technique: I like jump back kick as it is surprising and powerful, and hop side kick. Favourite
Form: is

Influential Martial Artist:
Bruce Lee and David
Carradine simply because these guys represented the first time I had ever even seen martial
arts,
this was about 1974 /
1975
I was about eleven years old.
In the real world Master
John
Trudgill
for
his
technical
excellence,
his
dynamism
and determination;
My wife Other Hobbies: I don't really have time for hobbies at the moment. I sold Naomi (my Suzuki GSXR750 K6) in April...just wasn't using it enough...I am constantly surprised at the amount of time involved in running classes and organising events for the Federation. Last Book Read: 'Azincourt' by Bernard Cornwell, an archers viewpoint of the times leading up to the battle of Agincourt 1415. This book is excellent.
Worst Book Read : is STILL 'Firewall' By Andy McNabb. A bleak soulless book set in post communist Eastern Europe. Favorite Book: George RR Martin the song of Ice and Fire series, ANYTHING by the Late David Gemmell but especially the Legend, Ghost king and Waylander series. Anything by Stephen Donaldson and Raymond E. Feist. The Green Mile by Stephen King (A good film but the book is extraordinary). Last Film Watched: Last film watched in the cinema was "X-men - First Class" which frankly it wasn't ....second class at best...film was ok just washed over you.....nothing too good about it nothing too bad....if this film were a colour it would be beige....or taupe (remember Taupe...now that was a colour from the 70's...sort of beige (light brown for the hard of thinking) but even more non descript. At Home was: 'Watchmen' Saw this in the cinema a few years ago and thought it barely watchable. Caught the film again middle of last year and thought it better the second time around. Watched the film about a week ago (after watching a film called 'Kick Ass' a sideways look at superheroes starring Nicholas Cage which was very good and very different) and thought the film was excellent. This is one of the very few films that gets better with a second look. The film is set in an alternate history 1985 at the height of the Cold War, as a group of mostly retired vigilantes investigates an apparent conspiracy against them and uncovers something even more dangerous and sinister. So a mixture of science fiction and superheroes if this is not your cup of tea you will genuinely hate this film. If you enjoy this genre stick with this one it will grow on you.Favourite Movie: Not really got a favourite. I enjoy lots of different types of film but no real favourite in genre or individually. If forced at gunpoint to chose then either the original Alien or Blade Runner (both by Ridley Scott). Worst Movie: Favourite
Meal:
Chinese in particular stuffed lettuce leaves and
Pekinese ribs (mmmmmm Chinese). Pet: I have 2 cats, both remain uneaten by the local fauna. 1 Dog, a 3 year old black Labrador who is as dumb as a bag of hammers, whom my insane daughter named Hemmingway.
