Name: Mark Best McKinley
Rank: 3rd Dan
Position at School: Instructor
Years in Martial Arts: 10 years
Tang Soo Do 2 years Kenpo
Accomplishments or Awards: Awarded sweatiest Ho Sin Sul
partner, everyone loves working on rotation 4
with me.
Favourite Technique: All of the Soo do techniques.
The open palm saves you having to break your
knuckles on some hard head. It also leaves the option open for a nice grab
and throw if you decide they don't deserve getting a good beating.
I also like Pakeso Anuro Cha Gi. The snap across the front to disarm or make
an opening, quickly followed by Dwi Cha Gi or Toro kunkuk.
Favourite Form: Pyang ahn O'Dan for getting
rid of being cranky and irritable. There is something vicious about the ending to that form that just satisfies.
Sip Soo to get connected back to the earth. Low, stable and powerful as the
mountain.
Most Influential Martial Artist: Leann Best McKinley, She
taught me that martial arts isn't just about strength of the body but of the mind and heart as well, there is steel under
those cute dimples. She also enlightened me that hitting like a girl really depends on
the girl in question. Robert McKinley, my Dad. Who taught me to keep my hands up
and guard your face, even if the boxing gloves are three sizes too large.
Other Hobbies: Reading Sci fi/Fantasy Novels.
Computers and networks. Drinking coffee....is that hobby or religion?
Last Book Read: Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher
Favourite Book: Now having stated above that my hobbies
include reading, asking for a single favorite book is like asking Mr Estes which half of the cookie is his
favorite. A favorite book is Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. My
favorite author is/was/shall be David Eddings. I grew up on Eddings and no one can
turn you inside out like Scott Card.
Last Film Watched: Last film was the 300, it was good, but
it was a made for marines movie if I have ever seen one.
Favourite Movie: Another unfair question, a single
favorite? Serenity of course, with the whole firefly series to back it up. Highlander, but only the first one,
because...there can be only one. Fifth element is of course on the list, a cult
classic that teaches us the immeasurably useful tidbit that you never
leave home without your multipass or a nice hat.
Favourite Meal: Anything hot and spicy.
Pet: Two Cats, Atilla and Stierna. Atilla, a
Siamese, really would try to conquer China. She would be soundly defeated however by the overwhelming
temptation of a well placed plastic shopping bag. Stierna, a black and white, is the
regal one, stoically enduring the antics of her obviously insane sister. One lizard named ATV. She may be an All Terrain Vehicle, but that isn't
what her name means. The two above mentioned cats like to sit and stare at
her for hours on end...like A TV.
